Result
Margin by product and supplier became a daily number the commercial team could act on, instead of a monthly reconstruction.
The challenge
Landed cost was rebuilt by hand each month from freight invoices, duty tables, and ERP exports, so margin by product was always a lagging guess and pricing decisions ran on stale numbers.
What we built
We pulled purchase orders from SAP, freight invoices from the forwarder, and duty rates from customs tables into one model that allocates every cost to the unit, surfaced in a governed set of reports.
- A semantic model that allocates freight, duty, insurance, and brokerage to the unit.
- Landed cost and margin by SKU, supplier, and shipment, refreshed daily.
- A variance view comparing quoted cost to actual at receipt.
Outcomes
- Landed cost known at receipt instead of at month end.
- Pricing and sourcing decisions made on current margin.
- The monthly spreadsheet retired.
